Widening of Campbell Station Road causes modifications to Farragut Schools Traffic Flow

July 29, 2009

Dear Parents and family members:

As you may be aware, the Town of Farragut is widening portions of Campbell Station Road. This road work will have a temporary impact on the traffic flow at some of the Knox County schools serving the Farragut Community.

Here is a description of how the traffic flow will be affected at Farragut Primary, Intermediate, Middle and High Schools. Since the normal traffic pattern at Farragut Primary School will change significantly, we have provided a map to help you visualize the changes at that location.

We have worked with the Town of Farragut and local law enforcement officials to address the school access issues that will be temporarily created by this needed public works project. There is no perfect solution, but with patience and additional planning of routes and travel times, we can make the best of what will be a difficult situation. When the project is complete, access to our schools promises to be much better than it has been previously.

In addition to the temporary traffic pattern changes, we will have additional security and law enforcement personnel available during high traffic times to assist with the flow of traffic.

I appreciate your cooperation and support in this matter, and we look forward to serving you and your children this school year.

Sincerely,

Dr. James P. McIntyre, Jr.
Superintendent

Bus access, loading and unloading will be unchanged. Buses will enter and exit through the north drive and load/unload in the north circle. (Route designate in BLACK on the map).

Cars northbound on N. Campbell Station Road will turn left on to Old Colony Parkway and load/unload at the intersection of Old Colony Parkway and Grammer Lane. Drivers who wish to continue northbound on N. Campbell Station Road will have the ability to turn left at the traffic light located at the intersection of Old Colony Parkway and N. Campbell Station road. (Route designated in BLUE on the map).

Cars southbound on N. Campbell Station Road will enter the campus via middle drive, load and unload in the south circle and exit the north drive. Please note: exiting from the north drive will be "right turn only" and a left turn from cars traveling north on Campbell Station Road into the center drive will not be permitted. (Route designated in RED on the map).

For parents who need to park and enter the building, entrance and exit for the parking area will be from the south end only, through the line for loading and unloading.

It is anticipated that this revised traffic pattern will remain in place for the duration of the road construction project. This is expected to be for the entire 2009-2010 school year and the first semester of the 2010-2011 school year.

Farragut High School
The only change to the traffic pattern at Farragut High School will be the closing of the drive from the school to Campbell Station Road. All traffic will enter and leave the campus by way of Stadium Drive Lendon Welch Way) or through West End Avenue. Traffic flow and loading/unloading areas on the high school campus will remain unchanged. It is anticipated that this closing will remain in place throughout the 2009-2010 school year.

Farragut Intermediate / Middle Schools
Traffic flow and loading/unloading areas on the intermediate/middle school campus will remain unchanged. Access to the campus will be through West End Avenue or Stadium Drive (Lendon Welch Way).
